Telenor Internet Settings: APN Setup on Android & iPhone

There is a special kind of frustration when your phone shows full 4G signal bars and absolutely nothing loads. I have seen this happen most often right after someone gets a new SIM, switches to a new phone, or does a factory reset — everything looks fine, the SIM is registered, even calls work, but WhatsApp refuses to send a single message. In almost every case like this, the culprit is one tiny thing: the internet settings, also called APN, were never configured properly.

What Are Internet Settings (APN), Really?

APN stands for Access Point Name. Don’t let the name scare you — it is just the address your phone uses to find Telenor’s internet servers. Think of it like a door: your SIM is the key, but the APN tells the key which door to open.

Most of the time your phone picks up these settings automatically when you insert the SIM. But sometimes — new phone, old phone, a reset, a ported number — the automatic setup fails silently. Nothing tells you. You are just left staring at a loading screen.

When Do You Actually Need to Set Them Up Manually?

You usually don’t. But reach for manual setup when:

  • Mobile data was working, then stopped after a factory reset or phone change
  • Your SIM works for calls and SMS but data refuses to connect
  • A shopkeeper or friend’s old phone came with someone else’s carrier settings
  • You ported your number to Telenor and data has never worked since

If your data was fine and then broke without any change, the problem is probably something else — run through these mobile data not working fixes first before touching your APN.

How to Set Up Telenor Internet Settings on Android

Every Android brand hides the menu in a slightly different place, but the path is almost always the same:

  1. Open Settings and go to SIM cards & mobile networks (on some phones it is under Network & Internet → Mobile network).
  2. Tap your Telenor SIM, then open Access Point Names (APN).
  3. If you see one or more profiles listed, tap the three-dot menu and choose Reset to default, then restart your phone and test your data. This alone fixes the issue for most people.
  4. If there is nothing there, or resetting didn’t help, tap New APN (the + icon).
  5. Fill in the fields exactly as Telenor provides them — the important ones are usually Name and APN. Leave the rest untouched unless Telenor’s own instructions say otherwise.

Here is the important part: I am not going to list the exact APN values here, because Telenor updates them and a wrong value from some random blog will leave you worse off than no settings at all. Get the official values from the My Telenor App help section or by calling Telenor’s helpline at 345 — it takes two minutes and you get settings that are guaranteed current. Type them carefully (capital letters and dots matter), tap the three dots, choose Save, make sure the little radio button next to your new APN is selected, and move on to the next step.

How to Set Up Telenor Internet Settings on iPhone

iPhones handle this more quietly. Here is the manual route:

  1. Go to Settings → Mobile Service → Mobile Data Network.
  2. You will see fields for Mobile Data, Personal Hotspot, and MMS — fill them with the official values from Telenor (again, get them from the My Telenor App or helpline 345; don’t copy them from comment sections).
  3. Press the back button to save — iPhone saves automatically, there is no save button to hunt for.

One thing iPhone users should know: on many iPhones, Telenor can push these settings to your phone over the air when you request them, so you may never need this menu at all. If the phone prompts you to install a “carrier settings update,” accept it — it is legitimate.

The One Restart That Actually Matters

After saving new APN settings, restart your phone. Not airplane mode on/off, an actual restart. Your phone only reads APN settings properly when the radio stack boots fresh. I know it sounds like the oldest cliché in tech support, but with APN problems it genuinely is the step people skip — and the step that fixes it half the time.

Still No Internet? Don’t Panic Yet

If data still won’t connect after a correct APN and a restart, the settings weren’t the problem. A few things worth checking before calling anyone:

  • Make sure mobile data is actually turned on (and check the per-app data usage so a background app hasn’t eaten everything — these save mobile data on Android tips help here too).
  • If you are in a basement, a remote area, or a crowded indoor place, the issue may be coverage rather than settings — these weak Telenor signal fixes can help you confirm that.
  • Try the SIM in a different phone for two minutes. If data works there, your SIM and Telenor’s network are fine — the problem is your handset’s configuration.

And if all of that fails, call helpline 345. Tell them you already checked the APN and restarted — they will skip the script and get to the real troubleshooting faster.

A Small Habit That Saves Future Headaches

Once your internet is working, take a screenshot of your APN screen (on Android: the APN list with your working profile selected; on iPhone it’s trickier since fields don’t stay visible, but a photo of the settings works). Save it somewhere you’ll find it. Next time you reset your phone or switch devices, you’ll have the exact values that worked for you, from your own hand, instead of hunting through blogs again.

Getting your data running is half the battle — the fun half is what you do with it. Once you’re back online, today’s Telenor quiz is a nice way to put those fresh MBs to work and earn a few more.
