Last month my package finished three days early and I had no clue where the MBs went. No extra YouTube binges, no big downloads — the data just evaporated. Turns out the answer was sitting inside the My Telenor App the whole time, in a small section I had never bothered to open. Here is how to find it and actually understand what it is telling you.
Finding the Usage Section (30 Seconds, Tops)
Open the My Telenor App and log in with your number. The home screen already shows your remaining MBs, minutes and SMS at the top — that is the quick version, and if that is all you need, you can check your remaining MBs and minutes there in seconds.
But the real detail hides one tap deeper. Look for your data bar or a small “Details”, “Usage” or “View History” link under it. On most versions of the app, tapping the data bar opens a breakdown screen with tabs or a dropdown for Data, Calls and SMS. The exact labels change a little with app updates, which is one more reason to keep the My Telenor App updated — buttons move around between versions, and an old copy of the app may show a completely different layout.
What Each Number Actually Means
The usage screen usually shows three kinds of information, and people mix them up all the time.
Data usage tells you how many MBs or GBs you have consumed from your current bundle. This is the number that surprises people most. It counts everything: apps updating in the background, videos autoplaying in your feed, the Play Store quietly downloading patches at night. If your package finished early, this screen shows you exactly which days ate the most.
Call usage shows your outgoing minutes — the calls you made, not the ones you received. Incoming calls usually do not count against your bundle, so do not panic if your total “call time” looks bigger elsewhere on your phone.
SMS usage is simply the count of text messages sent from your number. Most people barely touch this one anymore, but if you are on a bundle with limited SMS, it is worth a glance.
One honest warning: the numbers sometimes lag. The app pulls its data from Telenor’s billing system, and today’s usage might only show up after a few hours. If you downloaded a big file an hour ago and the chart does not reflect it yet, give it time before assuming something is wrong.
Daily View vs Monthly View — Use the Right One
Most versions of the app let you switch between a daily breakdown and a summary of the current billing period or package validity.
The daily view is your detective tool. See a spike on Tuesday? Think back — that was probably the day your cousin connected to your hotspot, or the day three apps updated themselves at once. This is how you find the leak.
The monthly or package-period view is for planning. It answers the bigger question: is your bundle actually enough, or do you keep running out a week early? If you are out of data every single month with days to go, the monthly view is your evidence that you need a bigger bundle — check the current options in the My Telenor App before your next recharge.
Spotting What Ate Your MBs
The usage history does not usually name individual apps — it shows totals per day. But you can still play detective:
- Compare a heavy day with a light day. What was different? A video call? A software update? Hotspot left on?
- Check whether the spike repeats at the same time daily — background syncs and auto-backups love schedules.
- Cross-check with your phone’s own data-usage screen (Settings, then Network or Data Usage on Android). Your phone shows per-app numbers, and combined with Telenor’s daily totals, you can usually name the culprit in two minutes.
Nine times out of ten, the “mystery” turns out to be something boring: auto-playing videos, cloud photo backup, or an app update you forgot about. The usage screen just gives you the proof.
Keeping a Record of Your Usage
Sometimes you need the numbers for more than curiosity — a billing question, or just tracking your habits over a few months. Two easy options:
Screenshots work fine for personal records. Open the usage screen, take a screenshot, and drop it in a folder. Do this on the first of every month and you will have a tidy little archive.
Some app versions also offer a summary or statement view you can save or share. If you ever need to talk to customer support about a charge, having dates and numbers ready makes the conversation much shorter.
When the Numbers Do Not Add Up
If your usage history shows data you are sure you never used, run through this quick checklist before worrying:
- Background data: some apps chew through MBs without ever being opened. Restrict background data for the worst offenders in your phone settings.
- Hotspot: anyone connected to your hotspot spends your MBs, not theirs. We have all been the free Wi-Fi friend at least once.
- Auto-updates: set the Play Store to update apps on Wi-Fi only.
- App login trouble: if the usage screen refuses to load or shows old numbers, the app session itself might be stale — fix My Telenor App login problems first, because half of all “usage not showing” complaints are just login issues in disguise.
And a final honest note: the usage history tells you what happened, not what will happen. If the numbers keep climbing no matter what you change, your bundle might simply be too small for how you use your phone. That is not a failure — it is just data, and now you actually have it.
