Weak Telenor Signal? 7 Fixes to Improve Your Coverage

Last week my phone was showing two bars at home and my calls kept dropping mid-sentence. Moved two rooms over, full signal. Same SIM, same phone, same network — different corner of the house. That is how fussy mobile signals can be, and most of the time the fix is something small sitting right in your pocket.

If your Telenor signal keeps dipping, calls break up, or your internet slows to a crawl in certain spots, work through these fixes in order. Start with the easy ones — they solve it for most people.

1. Restart your phone — properly

Sounds too simple to work, but your phone builds a list of nearby towers over time and sometimes it holds on to a far one even when a closer tower exists. A restart clears that list and forces your phone to reconnect fresh.

Don’t just press the power button once. Hold it, choose restart, and give it a full 30 seconds after it comes back on before judging the signal. I have seen this single step fix half of all signal complaints.

2. Toggle airplane mode on and off

If you don’t want to restart, airplane mode does almost the same thing in seconds. Turn it on, wait 15 seconds, turn it off. Your phone drops the tower connection and searches again from scratch — often landing on a stronger one this time.

This is especially useful when you move between areas. Phones are lazy; they hang on to a weak tower rather than switch. The toggle forces a fresh search.

3. Check your network mode settings

Your phone might be sitting on 3G or even 2G while 4G is perfectly available. Go to Settings, find Mobile Network or SIM settings, and check the “preferred network type” or “network mode”. Set it to LTE/4G preferred (or 5G/4G/3G auto if your phone and area support it).

While you’re there, make sure your Telenor SIM is the one selected for mobile data if you run two SIMs. Picking the wrong default SIM in a weak-signal area makes everything slower, and if you manage two SIMs on one phone, small setting mistakes can quietly waste both data and battery.

4. Move a few feet — really

Signal strength can change dramatically within a few meters, especially indoors. Thick concrete walls, metal roofs, and basement rooms all block signals. Near a window usually beats deep inside the house.

Don’t laugh at this one. I once spent an hour troubleshooting a “dead zone” in my own bedroom before realizing the signal was perfect at the window. Walk around your space with the signal bars visible and note where they’re strongest — that’s your calling spot.

5. Take the phone case off, just to test

Thick metal or rugged cases can weaken reception. This isn’t true for every case, but if you recently bought a new heavy-duty one and the signal dropped at the same time, pop it off for five minutes and compare.

Also, hold your phone normally. Gripping it very tightly — covering the bottom edge where antennas often sit — can drop a bar or two. Small thing, real effect.

6. Reseat and clean your SIM card

Power off your phone, take the SIM out, and look at it. Dust and grime on the gold contacts can cause weak connections that show up as patchy signal or dropped calls. Wipe the gold part gently with a dry, soft cloth and put it back firmly.

If the SIM is very old — scratched, bent, or several years old — consider getting it replaced at a Telenor franchise. Old SIMs can have trouble registering properly on newer network tech, and a replacement SIM usually costs little and keeps your number.

7. Check coverage and report real dead zones

If the signal is bad everywhere you go — not just at home — check whether it’s your phone or the network. Ask a friend on Telenor nearby whether they have the same problem. If everyone struggles, it’s a coverage gap, not your device.

For genuine dead zones, call Telenor’s helpline at 345 and report the exact location. Towers do get added and upgraded based on where complaints cluster, so reporting actually matters. And while you’re at it, check the My Telenor App — it shows your usage and current bundles in one place, and knowing what plan you’re on helps you tell a signal problem apart from a finished-data problem.

A few things NOT to bother with

Don’t install random “signal booster” apps from the Play Store. They cannot improve your actual reception — they mostly reskin your signal bars and show ads. Real boosters are physical antenna devices, and for most people the fixes above are enough.

Also, don’t keep switching between 2G/3G/4G manually hoping one magically works. Pick the auto or LTE-preferred mode and let the phone handle it. Constant manual switching just drains your battery faster.

When it’s actually your data, not your signal

Full signal bars but nothing loads? That’s usually not a coverage problem — your bundle may be finished or the data itself may be misbehaving. If your mobile data isn’t working at all, run through the data-specific fixes before blaming the tower.

And one more thing worth doing once your signal is stable: stretch your mobile data further with smart settings so a good connection doesn’t get eaten by background apps. Weak signal plus wasted data is the worst combination — fix the signal first, then stop the leaks.

The bottom line

Most weak-signal problems are solved in the first three steps: restart, airplane toggle, and correct network mode. The rest — moving to a better spot, checking the case, cleaning the SIM — take care of the stubborn cases. Only when none of it works across different locations should you assume the network itself has a gap and report it.

Get your signal steady first, and the rest of your phone life gets easier — including today’s Telenor quiz, which plays much better on a stable connection.
