How to Dispute a Wrong Telenor Balance Deduction

You recharge your Telenor SIM, check the balance an hour later, and some rupees have quietly disappeared. No bundle bought, no call made, no message sent — at least none that you remember. Everyone in Pakistan with a prepaid SIM knows that sinking feeling, and most of us just shrug and move on. But when the amount is big, or it keeps happening, you don’t have to shrug. There is an actual process for disputing a wrong balance deduction, and it works better than most people think — if you do it in the right order.

Step 0: Confirm it was actually a wrong deduction

Before you start a complaint, rule out the boring explanations, because nine times out of ten the missing balance has a perfectly ordinary cause. A bundle may have auto-renewed in the background. If your internet bundle expired, pay-as-you-go data rates kick in and they eat balance shockingly fast — we’ve broken down why your balance vanishes so fast without a bundle before, and it’s worth re-reading before you accuse anyone of stealing your load.

Also remember taxes: a recharge never lands at full value, and that’s normal. Only move forward with a dispute when the numbers genuinely don’t add up — you lost more than taxes and usage can explain.

Step 1: Collect your proof before you do anything else

Complaints without proof go nowhere. This step takes five minutes and decides everything that follows.

  • Note your current balance (dial the balance check code or open My Telenor App and write down the exact figure and the time).
  • Screenshot the balance screen, your recharge receipt or transaction history, and anything in My Telenor App’s usage section showing recent activity.
  • Write down your number, the date and rough time you noticed the deduction, and how much went missing.

Screenshots with timestamps are gold. A verbal complaint that “my balance finished” gets a polite shrug; the same complaint with dated screenshots gets a reference number and a real investigation.

Step 2: Try the app’s own usage history first

Open My Telenor App and look at your usage history. Sometimes the mystery solves itself there — a small data session, a subscription renewal, or an old add-on you forgot about. If something there explains the missing balance, you’ve saved yourself a phone call. If the history looks clean and the math still doesn’t work, you’re now walking into Step 3 with evidence that even the app can’t explain the charge. That strengthens your case.

Step 3: Call helpline 345 and say the right words

The helpline is 345 — free from a Telenor number. When you get through, keep it calm and factual. Don’t open with anger; open with the facts:

“I recharged on [date], my balance was [X], now it’s [Y], and my usage history doesn’t explain the difference. I want to dispute this deduction.”

Then ask the two magic questions: “Can you tell me exactly what this charge was for?” and “Please give me a reference (complaint) number.” That reference number is the single most important thing in this whole process. Without it, your complaint doesn’t officially exist; with it, there’s a tracked record and a resolution timeline attached to your SIM. Write it down, note the date of the call, and the name of the agent if they give one.

If the agent explains the charge and it makes sense (say, a service you accidentally activated), they can often deactivate it on the spot and sometimes reverse the charge as a goodwill gesture. It happens more often than people expect — but only when you’re polite and specific.

Step 4: Follow up, don’t just wait

A complaint with a reference number usually has a resolution window — ask what it is during the call (it’s often around 3 working days, but confirm). If nobody calls back or the balance isn’t fixed by then, call 345 again and quote your reference number. “I’m following up on complaint number [X] from [date]” lands very differently from starting over. Escalate politely: ask for a supervisor or a senior agent if the frontline rep can’t move things along.

Keep every reference number and date in one place. If the dispute drags on, this little record is what you’ll hand to the next level.

Step 5: Escalate to PTA if Telenor doesn’t resolve it

Here’s the part most people don’t know: if the operator doesn’t resolve your complaint, you can take it to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. PTA runs an official complaint portal at complaint.pta.gov.pk (and the CMS mobile app), plus a toll-free helpline at 0800-55055. One important rule — you must first complain to the operator and get that reference number; PTA will ask for it as proof that you gave Telenor a chance.

When filing with PTA, attach your screenshots, recharge receipts, and every reference number you collected. PTA complaints get tracked, and operators take them seriously because response times are monitored. Our step-by-step post on how to escalate it to PTA covers the portal walkthrough if you need it.

Be honest with yourself about what to expect

A fair warning: “dispute” doesn’t mean “automatic refund.” If the investigation shows the charge was a legitimate service you used (even accidentally), the deduction stands — but you can still ask for the service to be turned off and, often, get a courtesy reversal the first time. If the charge truly was an error, it gets corrected. The system is fair; it’s just slow. Give it the process’s full timeline before you declare it dead.

Stop it happening again

Once you’ve been through this once, a few habits make sure you never need to do it again: keep an eye on bundle expiry dates in My Telenor App, switch off services you don’t use, and check your balance after big recharges so you catch strange deductions early instead of a week later. Ten seconds of balance-checking beats ten days of complaint follow-ups.
