How to Set a Caller Tune on Your Telenor Number

Call any friend these days and half the time you don’t hear the usual “trr-trr” — you hear a song, a naat, or some funny dialogue instead. That’s a caller tune, and if you’ve ever thought “yaar, mujhe bhi lagani hai,” this guide is for you.

What a Caller Tune Actually Is

A caller tune (Telenor calls the service Smart Tunes) replaces the standard ringing sound with a song or tune of your choice. Important detail most people get wrong: you never hear your own caller tune. Your callers hear it while they’re waiting for you to pick up. So it doesn’t change anything about how your phone sounds to you — it’s purely for the people calling you.

Think of it as a tiny introduction before you even say hello. People set them for all sorts of reasons: their favourite song, a naat during Ramzan, something funny for friends, or something professional if clients call them often.

How to Set One Through My Telenor App

The easiest and safest way to set a caller tune is through the My Telenor App. That way you see the charges clearly before anything gets activated — no surprise SMS subscriptions.

  1. Open My Telenor App and make sure you’re logged in.
  2. Look around the services or entertainment section for “Smart Tunes” (the exact spot can move after app updates, so poke around a little).
  3. Browse the tune library — they’re usually grouped by category like songs, naats, and funny clips. Most tunes let you preview them first, so actually listen before you commit.
  4. Tap activate on the one you like and confirm. You’ll get a confirmation SMS.

Done. From that moment on, anyone who calls your number hears your chosen tune instead of the regular ring.

If you don’t find the service in the app, you can contact Telenor customer care on 345 and ask them to walk you through the current activation method. Just don’t activate it through random SMS links or forwards from unknown numbers — there are plenty of scam messages floating around that pretend to be tune subscriptions.

Another way to personalise your calls is to set up voicemail on your number.

Picking a Tune That Won’t Embarrass You

This part sounds obvious, but people mess it up all the time. A caller tune is public — every single person who calls you hears it. So before you pick that comedy clip your hostel friends found hilarious, think about who else calls you.

A few practical rules:

  • Work contacts exist. If your boss, clients, or rishta aunties call you, a loud item song might not be the impression you want. Pick something neutral, or skip the tune entirely.
  • Change it with the season. A lot of people switch to naats in Ramzan or something festive around Eid, then go back to normal. There’s no rule saying your tune has to be permanent.
  • Preview twice. That 20-second clip sounds very different the fiftieth time you imagine a caller hearing it. If you’re not sure, don’t activate it yet.

The Part Nobody Tells You: It Costs Money

Here’s the honest bit, and it’s the reason I’m writing this section at all. Caller tunes are a paid subscription — usually a small recurring fee that quietly deducts from your balance. It’s not a one-time thing. As long as the tune stays active, the charges keep coming.

This is exactly how people end up confused about their balance disappearing “for no reason.” They activated a tune months ago during a free trial or on a friend’s dare, forgot about it, and the fee kept deducting. If your balance has been shrinking and you can’t figure out why, check whether Smart Tunes is still active on your number — and if you find a charge you don’t recognise, you can dispute a wrong balance deduction and get it sorted.

So before you activate: check the exact charges shown in the app, decide if the tune is worth that monthly cost to you, and remember it’s your job to turn it off when you’re done with it. Telenor won’t do that for you.

How to Change or Remove Your Caller Tune

Changing your tune is the same process as setting it — go back to the Smart Tunes section in the app, pick a new one, and activate it. The new tune replaces the old one.

Removing it is the more important skill, honestly:

  1. Open My Telenor App and go to the Smart Tunes section.
  2. Look for your active tune and the deactivate or unsubscribe option.
  3. Confirm the deactivation and wait for the confirmation SMS.

After that, your callers go back to hearing the normal ring. If the app doesn’t show a clear deactivate option, call 345 and ask the agent to remove the service from your number, then check your next few balance deductions to confirm the charges actually stopped.

Heard a Tune You Liked on Someone Else’s Number?

This happens a lot — you call a friend, hear a great tune, and want the same one. Most tunes in the Smart Tunes library are searchable by name or category, so just open the app and look for it. If you can’t find the exact one, pick something close. Don’t go hunting for it through shady third-party “free tune” websites; half of those are just balance-eating subscription traps.

When Your Tune Doesn’t Play for Callers

Sometimes a friend tells you “yaar, I just heard the normal ring.” A few things can cause that:

  • Roaming or network quirks. Caller tunes occasionally don’t play when you’re roaming or when the caller is on certain other networks. Nothing’s broken; it’s just how the service behaves sometimes.
  • The subscription lapsed. If your balance ran out, the service may have paused. Recharge and it usually comes back on its own — though it’s worth confirming in the app.
  • You recently changed SIMs. If you got a replacement SIM, double-check that the tune service carried over.

If none of that explains it, a quick call to 345 will sort it out faster than any amount of guessing.

One Last Thing

A caller tune is a small, fun personalisation — nothing more. Set one if you like the idea, enjoy it, but keep an eye on the charges and remove it the moment you stop caring about it. Your future self, checking a mysteriously low balance at the end of the month, will thank you.
