Nothing ruins your day faster than mobile data that suddenly stops working. You are standing there, WhatsApp messages are not sending, and the little 4G icon has vanished from your screen. It happened to me last month right before an important video call — and the fix took less than two minutes. Here are the nine things worth trying before you blame the network.
1. Check if your data is actually finished
Let’s start with the most common culprit. Sometimes the bundle quietly runs out and the phone just stops connecting. Open the My Telenor App and check your remaining MBs before touching any settings. If it shows zero, you already know the problem — recharge or buy a new bundle and you are back online.
2. Toggle airplane mode on and off
This is the classic for a reason. Swipe down your notification panel, turn airplane mode on, wait ten seconds, then turn it off. This forces your phone to drop the network connection and reconnect fresh. I would say this single trick solves about half of all “data not working” complaints I hear from friends.
3. Restart your phone
Sounds too simple, but a restart clears stuck network processes that a settings toggle cannot reach. Power your phone off completely, wait about thirty seconds, and turn it back on. Give it a minute after booting to latch onto the 4G signal again.
4. Make sure mobile data is enabled (for the right SIM)
If you use two SIMs — and most of us in Pakistan do — the phone can quietly switch your mobile data to the other SIM. Go to Settings → Network/SIM cards and confirm that mobile data is assigned to your Telenor SIM. Also check that the mobile data switch itself is on; it sometimes gets turned off by battery-saver modes.
5. Check your network mode
In the same SIM settings, look for “Preferred network type” and make sure it is set to 4G/LTE (or 5G/4G/3G auto on newer phones). If it got stuck on 2G only — which happens after some software updates — you will see signals but no usable internet.
6. Reset your APN settings
APN (Access Point Name) is the little configuration that tells your phone how to connect to Telenor’s internet gateway. A corrupted APN is a classic cause of “signals full but no internet”. Go to Settings → Mobile network → Access Point Names, tap the three-dot menu, and choose “Reset to default”. Your phone will recreate the correct Telenor APN automatically. Restart once after doing this.
7. Remove and reinsert your SIM
Power off the phone, take the SIM out, wipe the gold contacts gently with a clean dry cloth, and put it back in. A loose or dusty SIM can lose the data connection while calls keep working. If you have a second phone handy, try the SIM in it — that tells you in seconds whether the problem is the SIM or your phone.
8. Try a different spot
Sometimes it really is the network. Basements, elevators, and concrete stairwells can block the signal completely even when your phone shows bars. Step outside or near a window and see if data returns. If friends on Telenor next to you have the same problem, it is likely a local outage — in that case, all you can do is wait.
9. Call Telenor helpline or visit a franchise
If nothing above works, the issue may be on Telenor’s side — a suspended line, a wrongly configured account, or a damaged SIM. Call the helpline from another phone, or visit your nearest Telenor franchise or retailer with your SIM and CNIC. Do not share your PIN or any OTP with anyone on a call; real support never asks for those.
Phone or SIM? A quick way to tell
After working through the steps above, you want to know where the fault actually is. The fastest test: put your Telenor SIM in a different phone. If data works there, your phone’s settings or hardware is the problem. If it still does not work, the SIM or the account is the issue — and that is the point where a franchise visit makes sense, because no amount of phone settings will fix a dead SIM.
A quick habit that prevents this
Most data headaches are really bundle headaches — you run out and do not realize it. Build the habit of checking your balance every few days, and learn a few tricks to save mobile data so your bundle lasts the full month. And if the My Telenor App itself refuses to open while you are troubleshooting, here is how to fix My Telenor App login problems.
