If you’ve heard people saying “Telenor khatam ho gaya” or “Telenor ab Ufone ban gaya hai” — they’re not entirely wrong, but the full story is calmer than the rumours. Telenor Pakistan has legally merged into the company behind Ufone, and here’s what that actually means for your SIM, your balance, your packages, and the daily quiz rewards you play for.
What actually happened
The Islamabad High Court approved the merger of Telenor Pakistan Private Limited into Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML) — the company that operates Ufone. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro approved the scheme of arrangement under the Companies Act, 2017, and ordered that all of Telenor Pakistan’s assets, properties, rights and liabilities transfer to PTML. Once the merger takes effect, Telenor Pakistan stands dissolved as a separate legal entity, without any winding-up proceedings.
In plain words: this was the final legal stamp on a deal that had already cleared the regulatory hurdles. Multiple Pakistani outlets — ProPakistani, PakObserver, Customs Today — reported the court’s written order back in July 2026, and the implementation has been moving forward since.
One number that shows the scale: after the merger, the combined Ufone-Telenor entity holds roughly 35.9% of Pakistan’s mobile subscribers, making it one of the country’s largest operators — neck and neck with Jazz.
What does NOT change for you right now
This is the part most rumours get wrong. A legal merger is not a switch being flipped overnight. Here’s what stays exactly the same for now:
- Your SIM keeps working. Your number, your balance and your active packages don’t disappear. The network continues to run.
- Your balance is safe. Money already loaded on your SIM isn’t going anywhere — a merger transfers liabilities too, which includes what the company owes you.
- Packages keep running. Whatever bundle or package is active on your number continues until it expires.
- My Telenor App still works. For now, keep using it exactly as before — checking balance, buying bundles, and playing the daily quiz for rewards.
If anyone tells you your SIM will stop working “because Telenor closed,” that’s not how this works. PTA rules mean your service continues.
What MIGHT change down the road
Honest answer: some things probably will change over time, but nobody has announced dates yet.
Tariffs could move. Industry reports suggest PTML may ask the PTA to allow higher mobile tariffs now that it’s the market leader — and when the biggest operator moves prices, others usually follow. We saw the same pattern after the Mobilink-Warid merger that created Jazz in 2016. For now, treat this as “watch this space,” not a done deal. Before buying a long-validity bundle, compare the offers — and if a package isn’t delivering what was promised, you already know how to check what’s active on your SIM.
The brand name may eventually change. Ufone’s parent company has said it’s still finalising its future commercial and brand strategy. The Telenor name on shops, SIM jackets and the app could transition gradually — or stay for a while. Either way, a rebrand doesn’t change your number or your balance.
Some users may switch networks. One report estimated around four million subscribers might port to other networks during the transition as people react to the change. If you’re thinking about it, the porting process is straightforward — but there’s no rush, and no deadline forcing you to decide.
What you should actually do
Nothing urgent — but three small things are worth your time:
- Keep your SIM registered in your own name. Biometric verification is your proof of ownership no matter which company name ends up on the letterhead. If you’ve never checked, here’s how to check your SIM registration status — it takes two minutes.
- Don’t fall for merger scams. Whenever big news like this breaks, fraud calls follow: “Telenor band ho raha hai, apna OTP bata dein warna SIM block ho jayegi.” No real company asks for your PIN or OTP on a call. Ever. If a message promises a “merger bonus,” check it inside the official app, not through a forwarded WhatsApp link.
- Keep an eye on official announcements, not forwarded messages. Package changes, app updates or rebranding will be announced through official channels first. Rumours travel faster than facts — let the facts catch up.
What about the daily quiz and rewards?
This is the question I get asked most, so let’s address it directly: as of now, nothing has been announced about the My Telenor App’s daily quiz, Test Your Skills, or the coins-and-MBs rewards system changing. The app continues to run, the quiz continues to pay out free MBs for correct answers, and there’s no reason to stop playing. If anything changes on the rewards side, I’ll cover it here the day it’s confirmed — not as a rumour.
In the meantime, keep your streak going: open the app, answer today’s questions, and don’t leave free MBs on the table. And if you haven’t tried it yet, here’s how the daily quiz in the My Telenor App works and how you claim what you win.
The bottom line
Telenor Pakistan the company is merging out of existence; Telenor the service on your phone keeps running. Your number works, your balance is safe, your packages continue, and the quiz rewards haven’t gone anywhere. The things to watch are possible tariff moves and an eventual rebrand — both of which will be announced officially, not through your cousin’s WhatsApp status.
Big corporate news brings big rumours. Stick to what’s confirmed, keep your SIM registered, guard your OTP like your wallet — and there’s still a quiz to win today.
