My friend complained for weeks that the quiz in his app never opened — just a spinning loader. I checked his phone, and the app was two versions old. One update later, everything worked.
That little story is basically this whole post. My Telenor App isn’t just a balance checker anymore. For many of us it’s the quiz, the coins, the weekly offers, the rewards. And all of that runs on the newest version of the app. An old version quietly blocks things — no error message, no warning, just features that never quite work the way they should.
What actually breaks when you skip updates
This isn’t the usual “updates are important” lecture. Here’s what specifically goes wrong for Telenor users in Pakistan running an outdated app.
First, the daily quiz and rewards section is usually the first casualty. The quiz runs on newer app code, so on an old version the quiz page either won’t open or shows a blank screen. If you want how the daily quiz works to matter at all, the current app version is basically the entry ticket.
Second, coins and offers go missing. The rewards tab, the coin balance, the redeem screen — these get new layouts and new backend connections with every few updates. On an old version you’ll sometimes see your coins but the redeem button does nothing, or the weekly offers simply never appear. People then assume the rewards ended, when really their app just can’t talk to the new system properly. If you’ve been stacking coins, remind yourself how to convert your coins into free MBs so they don’t sit there unused.
Third, login and balance quirks creep in. Outdated versions are a classic cause of “session expired” loops and the balance screen that refuses to load — the exact complaints you see in Facebook groups every week. Most of these are fixed server-side but need a newer app on your phone to display correctly.
How the rewards side actually changes between versions
Telenor doesn’t publish a neat changelog that normal people read, so here’s the practical version: every few months the rewards system gets backend changes — new quiz formats, tweaked coin mechanics, new offer templates. Your app version is what lets your phone understand those changes.
Simple way to think about it: the old app speaks the old language, the server starts speaking the new one, and at some point they stop understanding each other. Whichever feature changed most recently is the one that breaks first — usually the quiz or the rewards tab. And nothing in the app will tell you “please update.” It’ll just… not work.
This is also why two people on the same package can see different offers. One updated, one didn’t. Same SIM, same number, different experience. It’s the app, not the package.
Updating takes two minutes — do it this way
Alright, the practical part. If you’ve never thought about this, here’s the two-minute version.
- Open the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone) and search “My Telenor.” If there’s an Update button, tap it. That’s the whole job.
- After updating, open the app once and let it settle — give it a minute on Wi-Fi so everything loads fresh.
- Tap through the rewards section, the quiz banner, and your usage tab. If everything loads, you’re set.
- If something still looks off after the update, clear the app cache (Android: Settings → Apps → My Telenor → Storage → Clear cache) and open it again. Don’t hit “Clear data” unless you’re ready to log in again.
No reinstall needed in most cases, and your login, coins, and history stay exactly where they were.
Auto-update or manual? What actually works
Auto-update sounds ideal, and for most people it is. On Android: Play Store → your profile → Settings → Network preferences → Auto-update apps → “Over Wi-Fi only.” On iPhone: Settings → App Store → App Updates.
That said, if you’re careful with storage — old phone, 32GB, every megabyte matters — manual works fine. Just build the habit: check for an update on the first of every month, or every Friday. Tie it to something you already do. I know people who check while waiting for Friday prayers. Whatever works — just pick a rhythm and keep it.
One honest note: updates are usually 30–60 MB downloads. If your data is nearly finished at month’s end, update over Wi-Fi or wait for the next recharge. Updating isn’t worth eating into your last MBs.
After updating, check these three things
New version installed? Do a quick 60-second tour so you know nothing slipped through.
The quiz banner. Open the app and find the daily quiz entry point. Play it once — today’s round is the fastest way to confirm everything works. And remember, we publish the daily Telenor quiz right here on this site too, with the questions and answers, if you want a preview before you play.
Your coin balance. Head to the rewards tab and confirm your coins are still there. New versions sometimes move the redeem button to a different spot — worth five seconds to find it again.
Your usage stats. Glance at remaining MBs and minutes to make sure they’re loading. If the numbers look stuck from last week, pull down to refresh. Still stuck? That cache-clear trick from above usually fixes it.
The one-minute habit that keeps rewards flowing
Honestly, this whole post boils down to one habit: don’t let the app go stale. Every rewards feature Telenor pushes — quiz rounds, coins, weekly offers — is built for the current app. An old version doesn’t get a friendly deprecation message. It just silently loses features, one by one.
Update once, check the three spots above, and you’re done for the month. Your rewards, coins, and quiz MBs will thank you — and if you ever wonder what happens after you earn them, here’s how those MBs get credited and when they expire.
